Celtic dancer scoops various medals at dance comps

Crystal Hayden competed in the South Coast Highland Gathering and the South Coast Feis (Irish dancing) on the same day.

CELTIC dancer, Crystal Hayden, took part in the South Coast Highland Gathering (Highland dancing) and also the South Coast Feis (Irish dancing) competitions recently.

The seventeen-year-old, who schools at Westville Girls’ High School, danced in the all ages category for Premier Highland. She won a gold medal, a silver medal, a bronze medal and a fourth place for the four dances in her Highland section, achieving the runner-up trophy winner place. In the Premier National all ages section she received a silver medal. This was an excellent personal achievement, as she was dancing against girls 10 years her senior.

In the second competition of the day, the Irish Dancing Feis, after the exhausting Highland competition, Crystal pushed on and won a gold medal for her Mean Ghrad Reel and also won the trophy for this dance. She won a gold medal for the Ard Grad Single Jig, a gold medal for the Mean Ghrad Slip Jig and a silver medal for her final dance of the day, the Arg Ghrad Hornpipe.

It was a great day of dance and a great day of personal achievement in a challenging section for Highland.

Crystal thanked her dancing teacher, Bronwyn Parker of Parker Studio of Celtic Dance, for her guidance.
