Kloof man arrested for child porn

The man was found in possession of a memory stick with child pornography containing images of children as young as 3 years old.

AN ex-Kloof resident was arrested in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday for possession of child pornography. This came after an intensive investigation by the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS).

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesman, Col Jay Naicker, said investigation led police to arrest the 39-year-old man in Pietermaritzburg, where he had relocated.

“In August last year, police obtained a search warrant to search the man’s house in Old Main Road, Kloof.

“He was found in possession of a memory stick with child pornography, containing images of children as young as 3 years old. ”

“Detectives steered the investigation for months to gather enough evidence to present a thoroughly-investigated and well-prepared docket for prosecution.

“After the investigation was completed, police proceeded to Pietermaritzburg on Sunday where the man was arrested.

He was detained at the Pinetown police station and charged for being in possession of child pornography and contravening the Film and Publications Act.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said she was glad that this criminal had been arrested and she hoped that he will be put behind bars for a long time.

“Violating children is a serious offence and it is of great concern when such individuals live in our communities surrounded by innocent, young children.

“I appeal to all parents to safeguard their children, and plead with the parents of this suspect’s victims to cooperate with police and the prosecution so that the suspect can be convicted,” she said.
