Pet owners call for eagles to be relocated

An eagle is allegedly preying on local pets.

THE recent article which highlighted the trauma a Waterfall family endured after their pets were killed by an eagle has led to more reports of domestic pets being harmed by these birds.

Photos submitted to the Highway Mail showed an eagle in the Ashley area, and its prey was also visible in one of the pictures.

Vivianne Sneddon, whose story was featured in a previous article, has still been trying to get assistance regarding the relocation of the bird. However, she has been told that the only way to protect her pets is to erect proper fencing around the garden to keep the animals safe.

Hillcrest resident, Angela Kenney, contacted this newspaper following the publication of the article to share her story. Kenney’s five cats were killed by eagles over a four-year period and she almost lost her sixth cat at the weekend.

The animal lover, who says she has the utmost respect for wildlife, added, “I adopt neglected animals and I provide a loving home for them. I love all animals and I also suggest that the eagle be relocated, for its own safety and to avoid an angry pet owner from retaliating and harming the bird. No amount of fencing will keep the eagle away from our pets. I urge the respective authorities to assist us to keep our pets and the eagle safe.”

While some readers have expressed their sympathy for the families of those who have lost their pets, others claim that this is the cycle of nature.
