Former cadet ranger talks about life at Giants Castle

Book your seat now to listen to Dr George Hughes.

FRIENDS of Kloof Library Forum will meet at the Kloof Junior Primary School Hall on Thursday, 14 May at 6pm for an interesting talk entitled ‘Drakensberg Ranger’ by guest speaker, Dr George Hughes.

Dr Hughes worked as a cadet ranger at Giant’s Castle in the early 60s. His work entailed fighting fires, chasing poachers, capturing wild animals and living a rough life in remote outposts. His illustrated talk will be about his early days as a relatively unsupervised ranger and will include tales about his many experiences there. Because of the wealth of stories he has to share, George has written a book entitled ‘Drakensberg Ranger’, which will be on sale at the talk.

Dr Hughes is also well known for having been the CEO of KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife. He is internationally-acclaimed for his work on turtles in South Africa, and his book, ‘Between the Tides’.

Tickets for the talk are available at Kloof Library on 031 764 7543 and will cost R50 each or R30 for members of Friends of Kloof Library.
