Another bomb scare at Southway Mall

Police said the bomb squad conducted a first schedule test to search for the bomb but didn't find anything.

SHOPPERS and tenants were evacuated from Southway Mall earlier today following a bomb scare threat.

According to Inspector Derek Vijiam, communications officer at Bellair SAPS, a retailer at the shopping mall received two calls from an anonymous person saying that there is a bomb inside the mall on Solomon Mahlangu Drive around 11am.

“Two police officers, W/O Marlan Naidoo and Const Dane Moonsamy of Bellair SAPS, investigated. They called the Bomb Squad, who sent their dogs in. The first schedule check came back negative and the squad is currently conducting a second schedule check,” said Vijiam.

Shop owners started to reopen their stores around 1pm.

This is the second bomb scare at Southway Mall this year.
