Mall opening goes ahead despite protest action

The group of protesters who gathered this morning at the Water Crest Mall has since dispersed.

DESPITE a planned protest outside the Water Crest Shopping Mall earlier today, the launch of the new retail centre went ahead as planned without any disruptions.

According to social media reports, about 80 people split into two groups and gathered on Brackenhill Road around 7.30am. The reports claimed that the protest was linked to a taxi strike and employment issues  at the new shopping mall.

According to Elizabeth Roux, the marketing manager of the new mall, management was aware of the threats of protest action and were addressing the matter with the councillors concerned.

MEC of Finance, Belinda Scott, said like every construction there were ups and downs, but the team stood firmly and managed to pull together a successful opening.

Around 10.30am, the crowds of protesters had dispersed and the shoppers continued to enjoy the opening specials.
