Woman abandons baby in Warwick Avenue

Police appeal to the public to assist them to search for the mother who abandoned her baby in Warwick Avenue last Thursday.

DURBAN Central police are appealing to the public to assist them in locating the mother of a baby who was found abandoned in the market area last Thursday.

According to Captain Kephu Ndlovu, communications officer at Durban Central, the child is a baby girl approximately one month old.

“The child was found in Warwick Avenue near Cambridge. A street vendor alleges she was at her stall last Thursday at about 10am when she was approached by an unknown woman who asked if she would hold the child because she wanted to go inside the shop to purchase something and could not go with the baby since the supermarket is cold,” he said.

Ndlovu said the vendor waited but the woman did not return to fetch the child.

Ndlovu appealed to anyone who can assist the police in locating the mother of the baby to contact Durban Central Detectives Constable Musawenkosi Dlani on 031-325 4116/ 0798120486.
