Firey nightmare draws to an end for local shops

Three shops in Qashana Khuzwayo (Shepstone) Road - KFC, Orsum Pet Foods and New Germany Supply Store (Pop In) - had to close temporarily after they were damaged in the fire.

Two of the three shops that caught fire on 28 November last year are set to reopen after months of closure with no income.

The three shops in Qashana Khuzwayo (Shepstone) Road – KFC, Orsum Pet Foods and New Germany Supply Store (Pop In) – had to close temporarily after they were damaged in the fire.

KFC was opened in January, Orsum Pet Foods is expected to open in the middle of May and Pop In at the end of May.

Owner of Orsum Pet Foods, Kevin Ferguson, said the premises has been surveyed and they believe it is now safe to trade again. “It has been a long wait for us; four months have passed now and this was not an easy time for us.

“We are really looking forward to the future and we hope that we will still have our customers,” he said.

Ferguson and Pop In owner, Peter Gavriel, were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation during the fire, and were discharged later that day after check-ups.
