Volunteers needed for clinic committees
The Department of Health suggested that clinic committees be formed in the Pinetown and Westville clinics to assist the management with direction, deal with the community’s complaints and, where possible, ensure the smooth running of the clinic.
WARD 18 councillor, Bruce Sutcliffe, visited two local clinics in Pinetown and Westville and noted that, while they offer an extremely important service, there are also serious concerns with regards to maintenance and staff.
“During my tenure so far as a councillor I have realised what an extremely important service the two clinics perform in the community for many people in need of medical attention. However, there are serious problems with regard to maintenance, both of the buildings and equipment, as well as staffing and, in certain instances, shortage of medicine,” said Sutcliffe.
While both clinics are run by extremely competent nursing sisters, Sutcliffe said he held discussions with the Department of Health to find out in what ways they could be assisted. The suggestion made was that clinic committees be formed in both clinics to assist the management with direction, deal with the community’s complaints and, where possible, ensure the smooth running of the clinic.
“I have now received details regarding the formation and running of the committees, and wish to request that anyone interested in serving on the committees in each clinic, preferably with some medical, teaching or management background, contact me to enable me to set up a meeting at which to form the committee,” said Sutcliffe.
The committees will be voluntary, and will meet once a month (or more if necessary) at the clinics to discuss its current operation, where problems are being experienced and possible solutions to the problems.
