Taxi crashes into building, three dead

Three people died and 12 were injured when a taxi smashed into a building in New Germany.

THE Easter weekend started off with tragic news when paramedics reported that three people died when a taxi lost control and smashed into a building in New Germany.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson said three people died and 12 were injured (four seriously) when the taxi lost control and crashed into a building on Dinkleman Road near Clermont at about 3pm on Friday, 3 April.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi had somehow lost control and crashed through a fence into a building. Many of the passengers had been ejected from the vehicle and were found scattered around the wreckage.
“Paramedics called for more ambulances as well as advanced life support units to assist with the mass casualty scene. Three people died before paramedics arrived and a further 12 sustained various injuries,” Jamieson said.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control. However, SAPS was on scene and will be investigating further.
