Eskom solar heating system rebate extended

Eskom has extended its deadline for the solar water heating systems' rebate before the Department of Energy takes over the rebate programme.

ESKOM has extended the rebate deadline for the installation of solar water heating systems before the Department of Energy takes over the rebate system.

In January, installers of high-pressure solar water heating systems, as well as homeowners who purchased these systems, were informed that Eskom’s solar rebate programme was being handed over to the Department of Energy with effect from 1 February.

The Department of Energy and Eskom have agreed to facilitate the handover of the solar rebate programme by extending the acceptance of rebate claims to high-pressure systems with an installation cut-off date of Thursday, 30 April or before.

Eskom said in a statement that claims have to be submitted to Deloitte, by both installers and homeowners, by 4pm on Friday, 29 May.

Since installers’ sign-off dates are used to determine the date of installation, homeowners are reminded to ensure their respective installer signs and dates claim forms the moment installations are completed.

Due to the solar rebate programme handover to the Department of Energy, Eskom’s solar consumer help desk and e-mail address are no longer active. But as a result of the extension, queries can be directed to Eskom’s Customer Contact Centre at 0860 037 566.

No new solar system supplier or installer registrations are being processed by Eskom, and the Department of Energy said it will advise the industry and consumers of the future of any rebates on installations after 30 April.
