Kloof SPCA rescues 2.3m black mamba

The Kloof & Highway SPCA has urged the public not to kill snakes.

The Kloof & Highway SPCA and snake expert, Nick Evans, were instrumental in removing and releasing a 2.3m long black mamba that had got stuck in a vehicle in Inchanga.

The SPCA inspectorate office received a call to say there was a suspected black mamba trapped in a broken-down vehicle on Siyabonga Duma’s property.

Evans was called in to assist SPCA inspector, Petros Simamane. Upon arrival it was ascertained that the snake inside the immobile vehicle was indeed a black mamba, and had gotten itself wedged behind the dashboard.

After parts of the dashboard were dismantled to get to the snake, it was eventually freed after a two-hour-long ordeal. Although the snake was shedding skin, it appeared to be unharmed.

The community was educated about the importance of not harming or killing snakes.

The snake was released on Monday, 23 March.

Kloof & Highway SPCA urges the public not to kill snakes, but rather contact them on 031 764 1212/3, or after-hours on 073 335 9322, to remove and release them.
