Kloof High retains Night Series trophy

Kloof High took home the Night Series trophy for teh third time in a row.

Kloof High School are the champions after winning the Gelofte Night Series trophy once again.

In the Girls’ Hockey final Kloof High beat Port Natal by 2 goals to nil. Kloof were unbeaten throughout the tournament.

This is the third consecutive year that the rugby final has been between Kloof and Gelofte. Kloof won in 2013 and 2014 and were therefore defending their title once again.

Early on in the first half Kloof gained their first point of the match – a try in the corner by flanker, Kwanele Pewa. The conversion was unsuccessful but Kloof still had an early 5 – 0 lead.

Gelofte came back strong and got a try of their own. The flyhalf duly converted and they took the lead, 7 – 5. The rest of the half saw neither team give an inch and Gelofte went into half time with their two-point lead intact.

In the second half, Gelofte kicked onto Kloof winger Ashley Garrity, who found himself isolated at the back. He managed to step his way out of trouble and head down the touchline towards Gelofte’s tryline. The cross defence had him covered, but a few slick passes and a grubber kick saw centre Saneliso Ngubane (Man of the Match) gather and run in under the poles. The try was converted and Kloof took the lead 12 – 7.

Gelofte threw everything at Kloof for the remainder of the half, but their defence stood firm. The final whistle saw Kloof retain the Night Series trophy.
