Help find missing girl (11)

Ashmika Singh (11) was last seen going to school on Wednesday, 4 March.

BELLAIR SAPS is appealing to anyone who can assist locate Ashmika Singh (11), who went missing on Wednesday, 4 March.

Ashmika, who is a pupil at Hillary Primary School and resides in the Malvern Children’s Home, went to school as normal but never returned.

It is alleged that she informed the Children’s Home that she was going to take public transport and visit her aunt in Floss Street, Bayview.

According to Malvern Children’s Home deputy-director, Amanda Botha, Ashmika did not return on the bus when the home’s driver came to pick up the children after school. “He went to check inside the school, as he thought maybe she might be playing netball, but she was nowhere to be found.”

Botha said they called her parents, who live in Phoenix, but they did not know where she was. “We then called the social worker who is dealing with her case. A case was opened at the Phoenix police station, and Bellair SAPS also opened a case. “Everyone is looking for Ashmika with no luck – police, her parents, the home and Phoenix Child Welfare.”

Botha said she did not know anything about Ashmika visiting her aunt after school.

“What the children have told us is that she said she was going to her boyfriend’s house near Werda, and others said she went to visit her dad, but we are not sure if that is the truth. We went to those houses, but did not find her,” said Botha.

W/O Derrick Vijiam, Bellair SAPS communications officer, said Ashmika is approximately 1.5 metres in height and weighs 35kg. “She has straight, black shoulder-length hair. She is brown in complexion with brown eyes. She was dressed in the Hillary school uniform – a beige dress and a belt.”

The investigating officer is D/W/O Shenlatha Rabi Raghoonundan of SAPS Bellair. She has interviewed the biological mother, the children’s home supervisor and conducted extensive enquires in Queensburgh area, which have proved futile, according to Vijiam.

Anyone who has information that can help find Ashmika can contact D/W/O Raghoonandan at Bellair SAPS on 031 451 2804/5.
