Hijackers pose as victims in Pinetown

A motorist's good deed did not go unpunished when he stopped to help two men who turned out to be hijackers.

A GOOD Samaritan’s deed landed him in hot water when he was hijacked after stopping to help two men he thought had been attacked.

Ashley Residents’ Neighbourhood Watch reported that the hijacking had taken place in Celtis Road in Mariannhill Park early on Saturday, 14 March.

The watch said on its Facebook page that an incident had occurred in Holzner Road, in which one of the two hijackers had been stabbed  in an altercation. They were then chased on foot by security.

While being chased, the hijackers flagged down a motorist under the false pretense that they had been attacked. The watch said when the motorist stopped, the hijackers pointed a firearm at the driver and demanded his car. The vehicle was later recovered in James Herbert Road.

On the same day, in a separate incident at about 7.15pm, the watch received a call from Celtis Road residents, informing him that two men were seen on the property next door to theirs and that they heard people screaming.

When the neighbourhood watch patrollers arrived they found the house was open and had been ransacked, and that the main bedroom door was locked.

When the patrollers broke down the door they found two women locked inside the en-suite bathroom. They had locked themselves inside while the men ransacked the house.

The two robbers made off with a large number of household goods as well as jewellery, and fled in a red vehicle.

“We have noticed an increase in crime in the Mariannhill Park area. We ask residents to please be vigilant and report anything suspicious,” the watch’s post said.
