Jacques Oosthuizen’s 2013 alleged killers on trial

Jacques Oosthuizen's alleged killers are on trial in the Durban High Court following the 2013 attack on Oosthuizen, as well as the robbery and burglary of his Hillcrest home.

TWO men are on trial in the Durban High Court for the alleged murder of 35-year-old Jacques Ooshtuizen, who died after being shot and stabbed in a brutal house robbery in Hillcrest in April 2013.

Simphiwe Sosibo and Mvuseni Mchunu pleaded not guilty to Oosthuizen’s murder, as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances and burglary.

In April, 2013, Highway Mail reported that Oosthuizen was shot and stabbed in his Braeside Road home in Hillcrest. He died on Sunday, 14 April from a heart attack caused by the trauma he suffered in the attack.

On 11 April, 2013 at about 9pm Oosthuizen was at home with his family when three robbers entered their house through a kitchen door.

Oosthuizen’s children were pulled out their beds and were forced into their parents’ room. Their father was on the floor, bleeding profusely.

The alleged robbers shot him before taking his cellphone, TV, clothing and a DVD player, and then fled in his silver GWM bakkie, which was later recovered a kilometre from the scene with the stolen goods still inside.

The trial is ongoing.
