Vuyo Mvoko speaks about SABC on-location mugging

Mvoko says he was mugged seconds before he was due to go on air.

SABC News contributing editor, Vuyo Mvoko, has spoken out after he became the victim of a mugging that happened while he was presenting live on location on Tuesday evening.

He also posted the following on his public Facebook page:

“Quite an experience, but I’m safe & sound friends. Twas literally seconds before I went on air when, suddenly, 3-4 thugs emerged emerged from I-don’t-know where. They took cellphones from 3 of us, a laptop, and some money. Here’s a video of how it all hapenned…”

Mvuko and the SABC on-location news crew were mugged at gunpoint in full view of TV cameras outside a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday evening. Mvuko was standing by, covering the visit of Zambian President, Edgar Lungu, for the 7pm news.
