FITNESS fanatic, Ella Baxter, has been rewarded with the title of oldest and most active member of the South African Seniors’ Fitness Association (SASFA) Waterfall class.
The 93-year-old from Waterfall said its her fifth year as a member of SASFA; she is fit as a fiddle and loves to exercise.
“Exercise keeps me going, keeps me awake and supple, and the camaraderie with the girls here is excellent. I have never had any aches and pains and never pulled a muscle. I feel fit,” said Ella.
She said, as a 93-year-old, she really doesn’t know what all the fuss is about.
Ella said she does all her own housework as she lives alone in a one-bedroom cottage in the Waterfall Retirement Home. She has a small family – two sons, aged 71 and 68, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren – who all believe she is super fit.
She exercises to music, and said she is capable of doing all the exercises and enjoys them all. A lot of the exercises she does are to Abba, Tina Turner or Susan Boyle music.
Peggy Wood, the fitness instructor at SASFA, said: “We all are inspired by Ella’s strength, sense of humour and friendliness. She has an amazing attendance record, and only missed a class if there was an emergency.”
