Police nab potato thieves

Two men were arrested in Pinetown after they were found with 21 crates of potatoes.

TWO men were arrested in Hill Street, Pinetown with 21 crates of potatoes, suspected to be stolen, by Pinetown crime prevention members.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said police were doing their normal patrol duties yesterday (26 February) when they spotted two suspicious-looking men pushing two trolleys along Hill Street next to the taxi rank.

“Police seized 21 crates of potatoes after the men failed to tell them how they got hold of them,” said Manqele.

It was later discovered that the potatoes were stolen during a break-in at one of the chain stores along Old Main Road the previous night.

“The two men will be charged with theft,” he added, and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
