Three nabbed for Highway burglaries and robbery

Two alleged burglars and an armed robber were arrested over the past week.

TWO alleged burglars and an armed robber were arrested by Blue Security armed reaction officers during the past week.

According to Brian Jackson, Blue Security operations manager, the alleged armed robber was arrested after he held up a woman in Harvey Road in Pinetown as she was walking to work around 8am yesterday.

“The man held up the woman at knife point under a bridge and robbed her of her handbag. He fled towards the railway bridge,” he said.

The woman gave the reaction officer a description of the alleged robber and he immediately gave chase and arrested him behind the railway bridge. The woman’s handbag was recovered and the alleged robber was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS.

In a separate incident, an alleged burglar was arrested in Bridle Road in Foresthills after he tried to break into a property at around 12.30pm on Thursday.

“Our reaction officer arrested the man at the back of the premises as he was trying to open a sliding door to get into the house. He was handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS,” he said.

Another alleged burglar was also arrested in Inanda Road at around 9am on Tuesday after he tried to climb into a house through a bathroom window.

The homeowner noticed the man trying to break in through the window. A description of the alleged burglar was given to the armed response officer. The man was arrested after the officer spotted him while patrolling the suburb.

“Copper pipes were recovered from the man, who was handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS,” said Jackson.

“We urge residents to be vigilant and aware of what is happening in their neighbourhoods and to report any suspicious activity – such as concerns about vehicles previously linked to reported crimes – to their security companies and the police, as well as on existing social network sites, to warn other residents,” he said.
