UPDATE: Two nabbed for foreigners’ murder

Police are still looking for three men who were involved in the murder of two foreign nationals in Inchanga after two were arrested.

TWO men were arrested on Thursday afternoon for the murder of two foreign nationals in Inchanga.

The men, aged 19 and 27, were arrested after an intensive investigation by the Pinetown Cluster Task Team, which managed to identify and trace them.

The two Ethiopians, Getechaw Paulos (32) and Deselegn Daniel (30), were shot and killed on the evening of Monday, 9 February in their tuckshop.

KZN police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker, said five armed men stormed into the shop in the Diphini area, Inchanga. “They opened fire, killing two people. A vehicle was also taken during the robbery.

“Police recovered money, airtime and the vehicle,” said Naicker.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the Pinetown Cluster Task Team for the speedy arrest of the men.

“It is totally unacceptable that these two men were killed for such meagre pickings. We appeal to the community to work closely with their local police stations to ensure that such thugs are prevented from moving freely in their midst.

“We will ensure that the investigation continues in earnest so that the outstanding suspects are caught and locked behind the bars,” said Ngobeni.

Police are looking for three of the robbers, who are still at large. The arrested men will appeared at the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 February.
