A 22-year-old man died after sand on the side of a trench caved in on him in Pinetown earlier today.
According to ER24 spokesman, Chitra Bodasing, it is believed the man was working in the trench for a contractor at a private business premises in Manchester Road, Pinetown. The trench was about two metres deep when the sand collapsed on him.
“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene the man had already been removed from the trench. He was lying on the side of the trench. The man was assessed. Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for him as he was declared dead,” said Bodasing.
The identity of the man is unknown at this stage.
