Kloof SPCA shows animal cruelty will not be tolerated

SPCA: "We hope that our community realises that cases of animal cruelty will not be ignored."

The Kloof & Highway SPCA showed that animal abuse will not be tolerated when they appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court in February in connection with two separate cases of animal cruelty that they had lodged.

On 5 February, Cindy Naidoo, the Queensburgh owner charged with severely neglecting her cross-bred Mastiff in April last year, pleaded guilty and was given a sentence of a R6 000 fine or six month’s imprisonment, half of which is suspended for five years, for animal cruelty.

She will also have a criminal record and has to pay the Kloof & Highway SPCA costs of R3 300 on or before 30 April.

Barbara Patrick, Manager of the Kloof & Highway SPCA ,said, “Justice has been served for Zoë, who was left to suffer by her owner. Thank you to the person who reported this case to the Kloof & Highway SPCA and to Inspector Cheri Cooke and the team who helped with the investigation.”

On 6 February, the case against a Queensburgh couple, who are charged with 18 counts of animal cruelty, was remanded until Friday, 6 March.

The state advised the court that an up-to-date schedule of costs incurred by the Kloof & Highway SPCA will be presented during the next court appearance. The Kloof & Highway SPCA confiscated 28 animals from a rented property in Escombe on 5 November, 2014.

Barbara Patrick, Manager of the Kloof & Highway SPCA, said, “Thank you for the support from the community. We will ensure that justice is done for the animals who suffered in this case. All the animals that have been re-homed are doing well in their new homes, but sadly the pug is still receiving treatment in our clinic and will only be re-homed once our vet is happy with the medical condition of this dog.

“We once again appeal to members of community to report animal cruelty to the SPCA for investigation. We hope that our community realises that cases of animal cruelty will not be ignored by the SPCA”.
