Police recover stolen goods worth R150 000

A Shongweni man is due to appear in court tomorrow after he was arrested for possession of stolen property worth R150 000.

A 43-YEAR-old man was nabbed this morning in the Shongweni area with stolen goods worth R150 000 by members of the Shongweni K9 Unit.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, said police, together with a private security company, were following up on information on wanted criminals in the Hillcrest area.

“While searching a house in Shongweni they discovered property suspected to be stolen. The homeowner was arrested for possession of stolen property,” said Manqele.

Police recovered two laptops, three scanners and an assortment of electronic goods to the value of R150 000.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the members for the arrest of the house owner.

“These operations will be ongoing and criminals need to know that police can pounce on them at any time. We also plead with the community not to buy stolen items,” she said.

The man is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
