Close call for Stella Road home

The passenger is still in a coma after suffering multiple seizures after the crash.

A MAN was left critically injured when the vehicle he was travelling in with a friend smashed through a concrete wall. According to police reports, the man, who was a passenger in the car, was travelling with his friend along Stella Road in the early hours of Saturday, 31 January when the car lost control just before Carrick Road. The vehicle first collided with an electricity pole before smashing through a resident’s concrete wall and rolling down an embankment before landing on its roof just outside a Stella Road home.

Paramedics found the two still trapped in the wreckage and carefully extricated them using specialised spinal boards. The passenger had to be placed on a manual ventilator as he suffered multiple seizures after the accident.

Both men were stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital, where the passenger is in a coma.

Residents of Glendale Gardens, a complex along Stella Road, voiced their complaints about the number of accidents that have happened on the busy road and at that intersection in particular. “Over the years numerous accidents have happened on this stretch of road, and as it a long winding road lots of motorists tend to lose control at the bends. We’ve approached all sorts of authorities to try get traffic calming methods implemented but we have been pushed from pillar to post. The last excuse we got was that speed humps could not get erected as it is a bus route, but funnily enough they managed to erect speed humps merely two kilometres down,” said Kuben Naidoo of Glendale Gardens.
