Help needed for large spotted genet project

If any residents have genets that visit their property, please contact PhD student.

Craig Widdows, a student at UKZN’s School of Life Sciences, Pietermaritzburg campus, is doing his PhD on the habitats of the large spotted genet and how they are adapting to urban environments.

He needs help from residents for his research. His Large Spotted Genet Research Project has been running for a couple of years, and he has had some invaluable support from Kloof and Hillcrest residents.

“I am pleased to announce that we are continuing with the genet research this month. We will be looking at the home range and habitat use of large spotted genets in the Kloof and Hillcrest areas. If any residents in Kloof and Hillcrest have recently seen genets on their property on a regular basis, please could they contact me,” said Widdows.

The research is also looking at genet roost temperatures, and results and updates will be available over the next few months.

Craig also needs a vet to assist him with his project.

If any residents or vets are able to assist Widdows please contact him on craigw@hotmail.co.za.
