Wyebank rapist sentenced to 15 years

A Wyebank man was found guilty of the rape of a 10-year-old girl and sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment.

A WYEBANK man was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a 10-year-old girl.

The SAPS regional communications office said Sibusiso Bukwini (26) was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for a rape he committed in 2013 in Fannin Road, Wyebank.

“On 23 July, 2013, a 10-year-old girl arrived at her home from school. There was nobody at home. Bukwini, their neighbour at the time, invited himself into the little girl’s home, knowing that she was alone.

“He found her taking off her school uniform and raped her. She was rescued by a relative who arrived after the incident to find Bukwini still inside. A case of rape was opened at the Pinetown police station before being transferred to the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for investigation.

“Bukwini was arrested and charged with rape. He was convicted and sentenced after several court appearances,” said  Major Thulani Zwane.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the Pinetown FCS for their dedication in making sure they gathered all the evidence to present in court, which led to the successful conviction and sentencing of the accused.

“We will thoroughly investigate all the cases against the criminals who prey on our vulnerable children,” she said.
