Final arrest made in Gillitts house robbery

Local police and a private investigator have secured the arrest of the final robber believed to be involved a Gillitts house robbery.

THE ARREST of a third man suspected of being involved in a house robbery in St Helier Road, Gillitts has been arrested thanks to the Shongweni K9 Unit and Heinrich Schwarz from Eventus Investigations.

The SA Community Crime Watch’s Steven King wrote on the group’s Facebook page that the officers and Schwarz acted on information they received and managed to track the man down to a house in KwaNdengezi on Thursday, 15 January.

He was arrested and will appear in court soon.

On 23 December two men were also arrested in connection with the house robbery, which happened on Friday, 19 December.

The family was robbed by three men, who threw the husband down the stairs, injuring him, and tied up the rest of the family.

According to King, the robbers defecated and urinated on the daughter’s bed before fleeing in a red Mini Cooper. Laptops, cell phones, a coin collection and other items were stolen. The car was recovered in KwaNdegezi the same evening.

Schwarz also received the initial information regarding the robbers and their whereabouts.

Schwarz, along with the Shongweni K9 Unit, arrested the first robber on the same evening. The robber then gave them information that led to the second arrest in Durban.
