Top achievers triumph at Star College

Star College's Boys' High and Girls' High both recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2014 NSC examinations.

STAR College Boys’ High School has recorded it ninth 100 per cent pass rate since 2005.

The school celebrated an amazing 212 distinctions by its 61 matriculants.

According to the highest distinctions, Shivanan Pillay scored 11 A’s and missed his twelfth distinction by just one point. His marks were English (84 per cent), Afrikaans (85 per cent), maths (95 per cent), life orientation (95 per cent), accounting (97 per cent), computer application technology (88 per cent), geography (79 per cent), history (80 per cent), information technology (89 per cent), life sciences (86 per cent), physical science (93 per cent) and religion studies (94 per cent).

Veshalin Naidoo achieved 10 A’s and Yesholan Perumal nine. There were four pupils who scored eight distinctions. They are Shihal Sapry, Nashlen Govindasamy, Justin Hammond and Ehsaan Rajak.

The top pupil in the school however is Justin Hammond. He came fifth in KZN after scoring a 94.25 per cent aggregate in the 2014 IEB examinations. His marks were English (83 per cent), Afrikaans (93 per cent), maths (95 per cent), physical science (96 per cent), life sciences (95 per cent), information technology (96 per cent), accounting (99 per cent) and life orientation (97 per cent). He plans to study medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Sihal Sapry achieved a 93 per cent aggregate, and Ehsaan Rajak 90.5 per cent.

Star College Girls’ High School also had a 100 per cent pass rate and a 100 per cent bachelor pass. The 23 matric pupils scored 96 distinctions in total.

Three pupils has nine distinctions. They are Dhayashni Candasamy (88.3 per cent aggregate), Jemima Soodyall (90 per cent) and Sunhera Sukdeo (92.56 per cent). Kimendree Moodly had eight distinctions.

Sunhera was ranked as the school’s top achiever with the highest aggregate. Her final results were English (90 per cent), Afrikaans (90 per cent), maths (95 per cent), life orientation (91 per cent), accounting (95 per cent), business studies (94 per cent), information technology (93 per cent), life sciences (95 per cent) and physical science (90 per cent).

The girls were unavailable for comment.
