Ashleigh celebrates 7 distinctions

Wyebank Secondary School's top matriculant is Ashleigh Arumugam, who scored seven distinctions.

WYEBANK Secondary School matriculant, Ashleigh Arumugam, achieved seven distinctions in the 2014 NSC examinations, making her the top pupil at the school.

Her achievements include high marks for English (84 per cent), Afrikaans (90 per cent), maths (85 per cent), physical science (85 per cent), life sciences (90 per cent), geography (87 per cent) and life orientation (93 per cent).

She said she was excited and pleased with her hard work in 2014, and also felt relieved after the long wait to receive her results.

Ashleigh, who lives in Gillitts, said she will pursue a career in pharmacy when she begins her studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal this year.

The youngest of four daughters, Ashleigh fared the best in matric out of all the siblings, which she has credited to her consistent studying every day.

She said she did not only rely on the school’s curriculum to get her through her matric year; she did her own research and pushed herself to understand the syllabus on her own.

“I just want to thank God and my family for supporting me through my matric year. It was all worth it,” said Ashleigh.

Her advice to the matric pupils of 2015 is: “There are certain sacrifices you have to make this year, but the end result will be worth it. Keep focused and study every day.”
