Boerboel pup’s leg amputated due to deformity

A sweet Boerboel puppy, who had to have a leg amputated, will be up for adoption soon at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

ONE of the Kloof and Highway SPCA‘s latest additions, an adorable Boerboel puppy, has had to have one of its legs amputated due to a deformity.

The unwanted and deformed stray puppy was taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA on 26 December.

The SPCA said he had a deformed hind leg, seemingly as though his toes had been severed either by accident or maliciously, but added it was a clean cut.

The puppy had a very low body weight and was in pain. Antibiotics and pain medication were administered for seven days and the wound was dressed and changed daily.

Due to the severity of the injury, the SPCA decided that an amputation was the only option. The surgery was performed on Wednesday, 7 January by Dr Shantelle Naidoo. According to Dr Naidoo, the procedure was carried out without a hitch and the puppy is recovering well.

During the procedure, Dr Naidoo discovered that the femur head was fractured, and was relieved that the the decision to do the amputation was vindicated.

The puppy will soon be available for adoption.
