Search continues for missing deaf boy

Police are still looking for Ndumiso Mbutho, who went missing in March.

A KWADABEKA father is determined to find his son, Ndumiso Mbutho, who has been missing for the last eight months.

Mduduzi Mbutho said his son who turns 10 years old on 18 December, was last seen outside his home in Lindela (under the bridge) in KwaDabeka on 25 March. He reported the matter to the police and have placed articles in several newspapers but to no avail.

Even though eight months have passed, Mdudzi believes his son is still alive and well.

“There is a possibility that something could have happened to Ndumiso, but I choose to believe that someone has found him and is taking care of him. It’s just a matter of time before we are reunited again,” said Mduduzi.

Ndumiso is deaf, has autism and is unable to communicate well. He can also be identified by a beauty spot on his forehead.

Jessica Miller, an American doing missionary work here in South Africa heard about Mduduzi’s plight through the Christadelphian Church and mutual place of work, which is a non-profit organisation, Community Outreach Programme Trust, in Westville.

She hosted a 10 kilometre run at the Durban beachfront in June to raise funds and awareness about Ndumiso. She also broadcast the event through her blog on the internet and called it 10k for 10k race. People from across the globe donated money and she was able to raise R10 000.

“I’m hoping to utilise this money to create ways in which we can continue our search for Ndumiso through adverts in newspapers in surrounds. We also held a child safety seminar in Clermont on 25 November in hopes of creating awareness and preventing other children from harm as well,” said Miller.

If you have seen this boy or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact Mduduzi on 072 339 3533, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or contact the nearest police station. The case has now been moved to the Pinetown police station.
