Senior citizens honoured at sports day

Businesses, corporates and individuals are urged to support Highway Aged's Christmas hamper project.

HIGHWAY Aged held a sports day at the Chatsworth Stadium recently in commemoration of Honour the Aged month in October.

According to Kevin Moodley, general manager at Highway Aged, this month serves as a reminder to the public at large to respect and revere the elderly.

“The sports day entailed a day of events, activities, races and entertainment. More than 600 senior citizens from various clubs attended the event. All attendees received a goodie bag on arrival, which included a bottle of water, small chips, small popcorn, a chocolate, an apple, an orange and a water bottle. They also enjoyed sumptuous chicken breyani and a cool drink for lunch, which was all sponsored by Highway Aged,” said Moodley.

The event was a great success and was also aligned with the older persons act and the active ageing programme requirements. Most clubs will soon be closing for the festive season. These clubs will require funds and other food items or donations to conclude their Christmas parties. Any assistance from the public will be highly appreciated.

“As part of our on-going fundraising initiative, we are now selling Christmas hampers. This is an annual event and all funds received from this project will assist us to sustain our operations. Therefore, once again we urge businesses, corporates and individuals to support our Christmas hamper project and purchase a hamper,” said Moodley.
