Time reveals year’s top ten gadgets

Check out Time Magazine's top ten gadgets of 2014.

2014 has been the year for gadgets that have thrilled tech geeks and let’s face it, just confused the rest of us. I’d barely managed to master my old Blackberry when my kids dragged me screaming into the iStore for an upgrade to iPhone, add to that an iPad (which I grudgingly admit I can’t get through the day without, and not just because of Candy Crush!), and I feel like I’ve reached my technology threshold for the year. That was until I read Time Magazine’s top 10 gadgets for 2014 and I realised there were a whole lot of new tech challenges and frontiers I needed to conquer.

Coming in at number 10 is the Ring Vido Doorbell. This gadget, according to Time writer Sam Frizell, is like a human security guard that tells you who’s at the door. This nifty doorbot is a ringer with a camera that communicates with your phone. With security a prime concern, I gotta get myself one of these!

At number 9 is the iPad Air 2, which is described as the thinnest iPad ever and has an impressive list of characteristics and price tag.

Coming in at number 8 is the Jawbone Up3 wristband, just what all super fit athletes are looking for this year. It fits on your wrist and can tell you how much REM sleep you got last night, how many calories you burnt and a host of other questions whose answers I don’t particularly care about, buy hey, that’s just me!

Next on the list is the Mophie Space Pack which, Frizell writes, will add up to 64GB of extra data and 8 hours talk time to your iPhone 5 and 5s.
The GoPro Hero4 is at number six on the list and is a must have for photographers and videographers and offers a host of interesting functions.

The iPhone 6 Plus comes in at number 5 on the list, this supersized phone is a bit like a portable iPad and is described as “more statement than answer.”

At number 4 is the Oculus Rift headset, courtesy of Oculus VR, which isn’t actually on the shelves yet but should be in months to come. Just the thing for those wanting to immerse themselves into the world of virtual reality.

Top three positions go to the DJI Phantom Vision+ which, it is said, pushes the video boundaries as camera-wielding drones.
At number two is the Smarthings Starter Kit which is a must have for those with smart homes. This will connect inanimate objects in your house to your phone and acts as an invisible aide.
Taking number 1 position, the top gadget for 2014 is the Apple Watch, literally wearing your computer on your wrist. It allows you to access apps, weather, photos etc etc … something every geek is anxiously waiting for to hit store shelves.
