Forest Hills Football Club looking for players

If you love soccer, why not go for a try out ?

Forest Hills Football Club is looking to grow its member base and increase its numbers over all the age groups for 2015.

The Club which is situated at 42 Forest Drive in Forest Hills at the Forest Hills Sports Club caters for all age groups and genders from under 6 right through to Seniors. The Club would also like to re-establish its Over 35 team.

In season training takes place for the Juniors from Monday to Thursday from about 5.30pm, depending on the team and the Seniors train on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Forest Hills Football Club has had a very successful year. The Senior First Team, following on from their 2013 unbeaten season, won their second consecutive League trophy with the Reserve Team placed as the runner-up in their respective leagues. The First Team also claimed their maiden Escombe Tournament Trophy early on in the season. The newly revived ladies team won the ladies League. In the Juniors, the Under 9s won the League and the Under 13s won the Knock out Cup.

Senior coaches, Jimmy Oliver (formally of Crystal Palace in England and Germiston Callies) and John Goncalves (a former Ramblers player) were also selected to coach the Pinetown and Districts Senior Team for the second year running against the touring Eastern Gauteng District.

The Club has been running for 26 years and was originally opened in 1988 by the then Chairman, Rodney Van Eck.

Some notable players who have played for Forest Hills include Grahame McKenzie, a former Maritzburg City player, Mino Coppola, the current chairman, who was a former Durban City goalkeeper and John Sanan who was a former Bush Bucks and African Wanderers player.

The club has two standard fields and two junior fields which are currently being top-dressed and top soiled in the off-season. The club also has change room facilities, a bar and a viewing deck for spectators.

Beginners and people with football experience are all welcome.

“The coaches are there to teach players how to play and improve their game.All are welcome to come and try out to see if they enjoy the game. All you need is a pair of soccer boots and a love for soccer,” said Grant Mamotte secretary of the Forest Hills Football Club

Forest Hills is also looking for people to assist the Club in the development of football.

“Coaches for junior and senior age groups are always in need and anyone willing to assist is welcome to contact the committee.We are looking to get a better footprint into the local area to boost football development and make people aware that we exist so that we can attract budding Juniors, Ladies and Seniors players.”
