New Germany stores go up in flames
Two people were taken to hospital after inhaling smoke when three shops caught fire in New Germany.
STAFF at KFC, Orsum pet foods and New Germany Supply Store (Pop In) on Qashane Khuzwayo (Shepstone) Road were forced to evacuate when the three shops went up in smoke in New Germany this afternoon.
According to the staff, the fire started at Pop In and spread to Orsum and KFC.
Peter (owner of Pop In) and Kevin (owner of Orsum) were taken to hospital after inhaling lots of smoke.
A KFC staff member, who was reporting for duty this afternoon said he got a call from his colleague to notify him that the shop was on fire.
“I did not believe him, I got a shock when I got here and there were ambulances and fire engines all over,” he said.
Some workers did not even get a chance to get their bags out of their shops.
Some of the shops in the block have been closed due to the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
