Nurse shot dead at KwaDabeka clinic

KwaDabeka staff are still reeling from shock after their colleague was shot multiple times outside the clinic last night.

A STAFF nurse at the KwaDabeka Clinic was shot and killed last night.

A staff member at the clinic who wished to remain anonymous said he is still in shock after witnessing the fatal shooting which occurred outside the clinic in full view of the staff.

“I still cannot believe it, I am shaking. He just shot her about eight times in front of the staff. It will take time to forget what I witnessed,” said the staff member.

KwaDabeka SAPS communications officer, W/O Sbusiso Ngcobo said, a staff nurse (30) was leaving work at about 5.40pm when an unidentified man walked up to her car.

“The man shot through her windscreen six to nine times and fled on foot,” said Ngcobo.

The nurse was with her colleague in her car when she was shot.

“Her colleague was unharmed and a case of murder was opened at the KwaDabeka Police Station,” added Ngcobo.

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and the KZN Health Head of Department Dr Sibongile Zungu have sent their deepest condolences to the family of the staff nurse.

In a joint statement, Dr Dhlomo and Dr Zungu expressed their shock and sadness by this incident.

“What is even worse is that this happened at a time when we are engaged with creating a better environment for women, through the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

“This loss affects us greatly, as we are determined to ensure that every corner of the country has a qualified health worker, providing the best care possible,” they said.
