Forest Hills family held up for three hours

The family that was robbed late on Monday evening was held up for three grueling hours before robbers fled in their car.

YET another Forest Hills family has fallen victim to a group of robbers believed to be responsible for about four robberies in the area in the last few months.

Secure Link’s Steven King (also the founder of Waterfall Crime Watch and SA Community Crime Watch)   said the modus operandi is the same in all Forest Hills robbery cases reported to the police.

“The group moves around on foot and use the victims’ cars to transport their loot. Although no one has been injured yet, the community must not take chances. They are armed and dangerous,” he said.

In the most recent incident, in Queens Crescent, Forest Hills on Monday, 24 November at 11.30pm, a father, pregnant mother and nine-year-old boy were held up in their home. It is believed this has been the third robbery in the crescent in recent months.

“They were just about to get ready for bed when the father saw three men rushing through the kitchen door. The family was taken upstairs where they were tied up while the robbers ransacked the house.

“The robbers helped themselves to food and refreshments and demanded cash and valuables, which included bank cards along with their pins. The robbers stayed in the house for about three hours before fleeing in the victim’s car. The father then pushed the panic button and alerted Secure Link,” King added.

According to King, he notified the Shongweni K9 Unit: “W/O Warren Hutt responded. The robbers were chased into KwaDabeka where they abandoned the family’s Kia Sorento and fled,” he said.

The traumatised family has received counselling.
