Prestige offers creature comforts

Sit back and relax as if you're watching a movie at home, with all the perks of being in a cinema.

WE’VE all been in the situation where we sit down with our popcorn and cold drink, start to get comfy in our cinema chairs, the lights dim and someone in front of you whips out their cellphone. And keeps it out for the entire movie because “oh my gosh what if someone needs to tell me about how their day is going.”

Movies are an escape, a way to disappear into someone else’s world for a few hours and the best way to do this nowadays is to spend a little more cash. Cine Prestige at Ster-Kinekor Gateway is the perfect place to watch a movie as it has the added comforts of watching a flick at home and seems to remove cellphone addicts from the equation.

The extra cash you splurge to make use of the upmarket cinemas allows you access to the Prestige lounge, where you can wait on comfy couches, skip the queues for popcorn and place an order for a few steamy snacks. The menu has a variety of delicious treats to choose from, which includes the generic coffee and muffin combos to a host of platters, nachos, snack trays and a few signature combos only available to Prestige viewers. My personal favourite came paired with a tub of caramel popcorn.

The seating is what sets Prestige cinemas apart as there are no ore than 40 seats per cinema (which also facilitates for disabled people). All of the lazy boy chairs recline, which to my amusement, some did not realise until they lent back too heavily on the seat. It is R110 per ticket, so if you want the thrill without feeling like you’ve drained your bank account, go along with your gold Ster-Kinekor movie card every Tuesday and pay half price.
