One killed, three injured in M13 crash

One person died and three others were injured when the car they were driving in overturned on the M13 at the weekend.

ONE person died and three others sustained several injuries when their vehicle overturned on the M13 in Pinetown on Saturday evening.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene found three people near the vehicle. It is believed they were ejected when the vehicle overturned multiple times before it landed on its roof near the far right-hand lane of the highway.

Paramedics treated the injured, two men and a woman, for injuries ranging from possible spinal injuries to serious lacerations. They were later transported to St Augustine’s and RK Khan Hospitals respectively.

The driver of the vehicle was still trapped inside of the car with no signs of life.

“Unfortunately, due to the injuries he sustained, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene. According to the occupants of the car they were traveling on the M13 towards Durban when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle,” said ER24’s Werner Vermaak, communications manager.

The local authorities will still investigate the exact cause of the incident. Two lanes of the highway were closed while emergency workers were busy on the scene.
