Woman (21) arrested for concealment of birth

The woman is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

A TWENTY-one-year old woman was arrested yesterday for concealment of birth.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, police received information about the woman who committed an abortion in Caversham Glen near Pinetown. She had been carrying the foetus for seven months.

“It is alleged that on Monday, 2 June the woman  buried the foetus in a shallow grave in the yard.

“It is also alleged that her aunt (49) who lives with her later found the foetus in the yard and the police were not informed of the incident.

“The foetus was allegedly thrown away in nearby bushes by the aunt of the woman,” said Manqele.

The Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is continuing with further investigation.

The woman is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 20 November.
