Update: Hoarded animals ready for new homes

Homes needed for rescued dogs.

Less than two weeks after being rescued by the Kloof and Highway SPCA off a property in Vausedale Crescent, Escombe, the animals are responding well to good nutrition and veterinary treatment and are ready to find new homes.

On Wednesday, 5 November the Kloof and Highway SPCA confiscated 28 animals, consisting of 17 dogs, four cats, two pigs, two rats, two snakes and one mouse from the rented property of a woman known for animal hoarding.

Cheri Cooke, Inspectorate Manager at the Kloof and Highway SPCA said that they had been informed that a lot of the animals had been acquired by the accused off the internet from people offering their animals free to good homes.

“We appeal to the public not to advertise their animals free to good homes on sites such as Gumtree, rather bring your animals into the SPCA for rehoming as our inspectors perform house inspections on all prospective owners, thereby ensuring that the animals are placed in the very best homes. After the animals have been in their homes for a period of time, we perform a follow up check to make absolutely sure that the new owners continue to provide the very best for our animals,” said Cooke.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA will be prosecuting the accused for animal cruelty and negligence under The Animals Protection Act.

If you are looking for a puppy or adult dog and can provide a good home, contact the Kloof and Highway SPCA on 0317641212/3. Pre-home inspections will be carried out before all adoptions.
