Thaver leads Berea West Senior Primary School

Berea West Senior Primary School welcomes its new principal, Mrs Kalay Thaver.

MEET Berea West Senior Primary School’s new principal, Mrs Kalay Thaver.

Thaver started teaching as a temporary level one teacher at Orissa Primary School in Isipingo in 1991. With 23 years of experience under her belt, she has taught at various schools in the greater Durban area.

She assumed duty at Berea West Senior Primary School in 1999 as a level one maths and English teacher. She then moved up to head of the department (HOD) in 2005 and was acting principal from March 2013 to 12 October this year. Thaver was appointed as principal of the school on 13 October.

“I’m very happy and looking forward to working with staff, the governing body and parent body moving the school forward and offering our children the best education our school can offer,” said Thaver.

Berea West Senior Primary School has 410 pupils from Grades 4 to 7, with 11 members of staff. “We pride ourselves in a holistic education, educating our children to have good values and skills in their adult life,” she said.

She added that she’s looking forward to a bright future. “Berea West Senior Primary School is a small school with a big heart,” she concluded.
