Thieves target New Germany complexes

Two cars are believed to have been broken into this morning at a local complex.

A HOST of complexes in the Pinetown area have been the target of thieves. The latest target were the residents at the Emerald Hill complex.

According to Louis Passero, the chairman of the body corporate at Emerald Hill, two cars were broken into in the early hours this morning (Thursday 13 November).

“One of the complex owner’s sons was having a farewell party and she said the car, a Hyundai i20, was fine after she checked on it after midnight,” said Passero. He noted that the thieves had smashed through the right hand passenger door, lowered the back seat and stole one of the speakers. They left behind the amp and the other speaker.

“I saw there was shattered glass around the parking bay where and Opel Corsa normally parks, so at this stage I am presuming that it was also broken into this morning.”

There was a relief guard on duty last night as their usual guard was on leave. The guard will be brought in later today for questioning. He added that the complex will now be forced to introduce a checkpoint system to ensure that regular patrols are being done around the property.

“A lot of complexes have been hit in the area recently and from what I have been told is that criminals have started taking up residency in complexes to as lookouts,” concluded Passero.
