PHOTOS: Shock at public cow slaughter
Highway residents are outraged at the slaughter of a cow on the side of the road.
A COW was believed to have been slaughtered in full public view by a New Germany family on Thursday.
The cow was tied to a tree on a verge along Bosse Street (municipal grounds) before it was slaughtered.
When the home owner was confronted, it was his belief that the verge formed part of his property and the Highway Mail was illegally taking photos on his land.
He noted that even though the cow was slaughtered near the verge, a blue screen had been put up so that the act could not be seen. He also said that his immediate neighbours had been notified and had a permit to slaughter.
According to a caller, passers by could indeed see the slaughter taking place despite the blue screen.
There were six sheep tied to the home owner’s wall. It is not clear whether these will be slaughtered in the same place as the cow or whether he will slaughter them on his property.
A permit costs less than R100 …. But NO control !!should not be allowed at all
