Help rehome six loving cats

Four kittens and two cats are temporarily being looked after at the Westville Veterinary Hospital until they find homes.

TWO loving cats and four kittens at the Westville Veterinary Hospital are in need of their forever homes.

Dr Meredith Neef, a vet at the practice, said their are numerous ways that a person can try and rehome a cat before it is taken to either a local vet or the SPCA. “Social media is a wonderful platform to get the message out. Many areas often have a Facebook page dedicated to strays,” said Dr Neef.

A few of the other options available are to print flyers along with a description of the cat which can be dropped off at animal shelters, vets, schools churches and the police station. There is also the option of contacting the local neighbourhood watches and sending a photo and a description of the cat. They will then be able to share this with their various contacts, creating a ripple effect.

“If that all fails and you can’t locate the owner, it’s time to take the final step which entails a trip to the vet. Local vets are able to scan the cat for a microchip and should the cat not have one, and nobody has come forward to claim the animal, you can ask your vet about the possibility of rehoming the cat,” said Dr Neef. “Remember that vets are there to help and will go out of their way to assist in securing a happy home for the little furball. Keep in mind though that it is often a very difficult task to rehome an adult cat.”

The two cats available for adoption are a grey neutered male, nicknamed Bachelor, who is nearly two years old and the second is Fluffs, a tabby spayed female. There are four kittens (eight weeks old), two are black and are both male, there is a grey female kitten as well as a tabby and ginger female kitten. If you would like to give these cats a chance at a forever home, contact the Westville Veterinary Hospital on 031 267 8000 or visit its premises at 31 Jan Hofmeyr Road in Westville.
