A NEWBORN baby was found by a worker abandoned in Cliff Road, Westville on Thursday morning.
The baby boy was found by Michael Mngwevu of Howard Electrical, who were contracted to clear trees away from overhead lines on Cliff Road, Westville.
Mngwevu noticed the baby lying among the leaves between Cliff Road and the M13.
Westville SAPS communications officer, Stephen Clark said Mngwevu picked up the baby and wiped off the ants which were already climbing over the tiny life.
“He then called for help and Pamela Jimu who works in a house just metres away was one of the first respondents.
“She brought towels and wrapped the little boy up, cord and placenta still attached,” said Clark.
Westville SAPS were called to the scene and Cst Laatz who is a trained paramedic, conducted some first aid on the baby and determined the little one was less than an hour old.
Clark added that Netcare and ER24 ambulances were on the scene and the baby was taken to hospital.
“The SAPS have opened a case and part of the investigation will be to canvas local clinics,” he said.
