Hillcrest High pupils shine on stage

Sarah McQuilliam and Daniel Bonaconsa won several medals at the South African Championships of Performing Arts (SACOPA).

HILLCREST High School matric pupils, Sarah McQuilliam and Daniel Bonaconsa recently competed in the South African Championships of Performing Arts (SACOPA) where contestants could enter multiple categories such as vocal, dance, acting, instrumental and modelling.

Daniel was awarded a medal for dramatic acting and Sarah won nine medals in a variety of categories – one gold, seven silver and a bronze. Sarah qualified for Team South Africa that competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in July. However, she chose not to attend but to focus on her matric studies instead.

More recently, the two talented pupils auditioned at the Hilton Arts Festival where they were each awarded a Talent Scholarship from the New York Film Academy. They will attend the academy in September 2015.

Headmaster, Craig Girvin, expressed his pride in the two pupils’ outstanding achievements and said it was a fine testament to the school’s drama teacher, Georgina Giorko.
