Sanele May still awaiting trial

Sanele May will appear in court again on Friday 28 November.

TRUCK driver, Sanele May, will remain in police custody until Friday 28 November after his case was adjourned again at the Durban High Court this morning.

May, who was previously denied bail, has now been in custody for over a year.

Alistair Walters, a state attorney, noted that the plea bargain had not yet been finalised as they had not been able to contact all of the victims of the horror crash or their families.

He said the necessary paperwork should be ready by Friday 28 November and Louis Barnard, May’s defence attorney, agreed to the date change.

The judge, Gregory Kruger, ordered May to remain in police custody until his next court appearance when, he said: “hopefully the matter will be finalised.”

May faces 24 counts of culpable homicide after 24 people died last year when the truck he was driving ploughed through five vehicles at the bottom of Field’s Hill.
