Pamela receives sports woman of the year award

Westville Girls' High School is proud of Pamela Daniel, who has excelled and participated in a number of sports.

WESTVILLE Girls’ High School held its sports awards last week.

The most promising junior sports woman award went to a Grade 9 pupil, Shannon Verster, who has displayed exceptional potential in sport. She is a true all rounder, participating in a number of sporting codes, such as athletics, badminton, cross country, softball and netball, all of which she has represented KZN teams. In addition to excelling in sports, she has a hidden talent in music, where she plays the recorder. This year she has accompanied the school ensemble group and is involved in playing at various school assemblies, functions and prizegivings.

The trophy for the best all-round junior sports woman, went to a Grade 10 pupil, Micke Gunter, who has made a significant contribution to sport at WGHS. She is a talented all rounder who has excelled in more than one sport. She is a member of the U16 A indoor hockey team, the U16 A outdoor hockey team, the 1st soccer team and the U16A softball team. She has represented both the U16 Highway District soccer team, as well as the KZN U16 Soccer team this year. She made it through to final selection round of Hockey district trials as well will be competing at softball KZN trials coming up this term.

The all round sports woman of the year was awarded to Pamela Daniel, who has excelled and participated in a number of sports. She was a member of the 1st indoor hockey team this year. She has also been a valued member of the 1st outdoor hockey team every year since 2012. She has participated in the All Girls National Festival within the hockey touring team every year since 2012, and was selected for the U18 Pinetown District outdoor hockey team. She has excelled in both, softball and waterpolo, representing WGHS 1st teams in both these sports, where she has also represented KZN U17 softball and KZN waterpolo every year since Grade 10, and has received her full colours for both these sports. She is also Curie House Captain and a member of the LMT.
